Expert Witness Services
What does an expert witness psychologist do?
Our expert witness psychologists are trained to provide in-depth, reliable information about our patient’s conditions in a legal capacity.
The process usually begins with direction from a patient’s solicitor, who will ask our team to produce either a thorough medico-legal report or appear in court to deliver a witness testimony.
We can provide a variety of assessments and reports depending on the specific case and your condition. Our team can evaluate hundreds of conditions, assess cognitive impairment, family issues, mental difficulties, personality disorders and provide detailed risk assessments.
Our expert witness services
Our medico-legal psychiatrist and psychologist team produces reports and witness testimonies for various disorders and conditions.
Psychological evaluation of mental disorders: Our medico-legal experts can write a full legal report detailing evidence of a mental disorder for a criminal or civil court or employment tribunal. These can also be used by employers to defend claims by employees.
Mental capacity assessments: Our medico-legal experts can compile a detailed report to evaluate an individual’s mental capacity for either the Crown Court or the defence in a criminal law case.
Witness capacity medico-legal assessments: We can provide a thorough medico-legal assessment evaluating a witness’s capacity to make their own choices and decisions in a criminal court case.
Psychological aspects related to personal injury: Our medico-legal experts can write an exhaustive medico-legal report detailing psychological aspects for insurance companies as well as claimant and defendant legal representatives. We assess whether the personal injury has reasonably led to a disorder based on the definition of a personal injury as “any disease and any impairment of a person’s physical or mental condition” (s.38, Limitation Act 1980).
Psychological evaluation of abnormal behaviour: We can create a thorough medico-legal report accounting for abnormal behaviour for use in a family court case, for example.
Personality assessments: Our consultants can provide a detailed clinical assessment scoring and interpreting personality traits to predict behaviour and outline interventions. This may later be used in a criminal or forensic case.
Risk assessments: Our experts can write a detailed medico-legal report commenting on the relationship between mental state and the capacity to commit future criminal acts for a criminal court case.
Diagnosis (DSM-IV and ICD-10): We can compile an exhaustive medico-legal report assessing the validity of a psychological diagnosis and its impact on behaviour for a civil or criminal court.

Psychological evaluation of trauma: We can provide a full medico-legal report evaluating the impact of trauma on an individual’s mental health for use in court.
Psychological evaluations relating to medical negligence and accidents, capacity and malpractice: We can compile a report to support or challenge a case for psychological injury in a civil court, for example by a hospital or care home, where the issue is a breach of duty of care.
Evaluation of schizophrenia and other psychoses: Our experts can prepare a scrupulous medico-legal report detailing evidence of schizophrenia and other psychoses for a criminal court.

Bipolar and other mood disorders: We can compile a meticulous medico-legal report to evaluate mood disorders for a criminal or civil court case.
Psychosomatic disorders: Our experts can write a meticulous medico-legal report to give evidence of a disorder that has been aggravated by psychological stress such as psoriasis, eczema, stomach ulcers, high blood pressure or heart disease. This may be needed in an employment tribunal or civil court.
